Thank you for using IDERA ER/Studio Data Architect, previously known as ER/Studio, the award-winning data modeling application for logical, and physical database design and construction. ER/Studio Data Architect's (ER/Studio DA) powerful, multi-level design environment addresses the everyday needs of database administrators, developers, and data architects who build and maintain large, complex database applications.
ER/Studio DA's progressive interface and processes have been logically organized to effectively address the ease-of-use issues that have plagued data modeling tools for the past decade. The application facilitates your ability to create, understand, and manage the mission-critical database designs within an enterprise. It offers strong logical design capabilities, bidirectional synchronization of logical and physical designs, automatic database construction, accurate reverse engineering of databases, and powerful HTML-based documentation and reporting facilities. Before you use ER/Studio, please read the information below.

This version of ER/Studio offers a new ribbon-based user interface for ease of use. Available actions are now located on ribbon bars for:
· Diagram. Includes the functions related to creating and maintaining a data model diagram, such as editing, formatting, and viewing.
· Insert. Includes the functions related to placing graphical objects onto a diagram, divided into Logical, Physical, and Data flow types.
· Model. Includes the functions related to managing the model as a whole, including generating a physical model and compare/merge, along with sub model properties and options.
· Tools. Includes the functions related to importing/exporting, managing a database, and other options.
· Repository. Includes the functions related to accessing the repository, such as diagram check in/check out, data dictionary and named release management, and administration.
· Macro. Allows the user to populate the ribbon with shortcuts to user-defined macros.
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.5 includes support for Oracle 18c and 19c.
ER/Studio now can connect with Aqua Data Studio, providing the ability to export SQL code created during the Generate Database and Compare/Merge wizard process. This ability allows you to further edit and deploy to source control tools.
This version of ER/Studio includes the Datatype Mappings File Merge tool. This utility allows you to merge into the latest ER/Studio version all user-defined logical and physical datatypes and their mappings from previous versions and resolve any duplication. For more information about this tool, see Datatype Mappings File Merge Tool.
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.4 includes support for Snowflake database platform.
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.4 adds support for the following logical datatypes:
Expands Support for Amazon Redshift
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.3 improves support for Amazon Redshift by implementing the following additional database objects:
Expands support for PostgreSQL
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.3 brings support for PostgreSQL 10.x, 11.x, and 12.x up to the level of a core platform by implementing Import from SQL and Alter SQL Generation.
This release also includes new Functions and Procedures database objects to support PostgreSQL.
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.2 includes support for Amazon Redshift database platform.
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.1 includes upgraded components and graphical visualization frameworks. This release also includes a number of fixed issues that you may review in the Release Notes.
ER/Studio Data Architect 18.0 includes a full redesign of the process to publish models into Team Server. In ER/Studio Enterprise Team Edition, there now is an additional prompt allowing you to publish a model that is triggered at check-in or held and not published, if desired. This feature works in conjunction with the new global publishing options in Team Server.
This release includes enhanced encryption of repository passwords for all supported platforms.
This release includes the option to select a SQL Server driver when necessary for forward and reverse engineering within your environment.
To ensure compatibility with ER/Studio Repository synchronization, this version of ER/Studio Data Architect requires ER/Studio Repository (Team Server) version 18.0 or later for all Repository operations.
ER/Studio Portal is no longer supported by ER/Studio Data Architect. Most functionality formerly provided by ER/Studio Portal is now provided by ER/Studio Team Server. Users that formerly used the Repository tab to browse the portal can use a Web browser instead.
When working with the Repository, all users must use the same license type. ER/Studio now enforces this by marking the Repository as an Enterprise Team Edition Repository when a user with an Enterprise Team Edition license logs in. Subsequent log in attempts by users with a non-Team Edition license will not be allowed
For the more recent list of known issues and bug fixes in this release, see http://docwiki.embarcadero.com/ERStudioDA/185/en/Release_Notes.
For detailed instructions on upgrading to Team Server, see Install or Upgrade Team Server and Repository.
To use the repository with this release, you will need to be running ER/Studio Repository (Team Server) 18.0 or later.
Repository is now installed as part of Team Server. To upgrade an earlier version of Repository, please see About Team Server and Repository Upgrade.
